I didn’t say thank you, what a fail

In the fast-paced world of business, it’s incredibly easy to get caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle and forget the small things that often make a huge impact on our customers and crew. One of those small things is saying “THANK YOU!”

We get it, we’ve made that mistake too, but the gesture of even a simple “thanks” can have a giant knock-on effect. It can be a powerful way to show appreciation and gratitude and goes a long way in building and maintaining positive relationships in the workplace and out. We are human and yes, we can be complicated, but there is one feeling that we all have in common and that is to feel appreciated, acknowledged and even respected for all the hard work and effort we put into our job.

As we have all experienced, sometimes it’s not always easy to remember to say “thank you”, especially in a moment of deadlines and meetings, busy schedules and work stress, we might even overlook it altogether! OOPS! (guilty). But, unfortunately, a bit of damage has been done and it could have come across as ungrateful, maybe even dismissive, and this not only damages relationships but can do some harm to our professional reputation too.

Here are a few reasons why it is so important to say thank you

  1. Job Satisfaction

Your employees are your biggest asset, it’s true! And to make them feel valued and appreciated boosts morale encourages a positive working culture and creates happy little worker bees, willing to go the extra mile for you and for your clients, which ultimately drives sales sales sales.

  1. Loyalty from your customers

Remember the adage, “treat ’em mean, keep ’em keen”? Well, it couldn’t be more wrong! By the simple gesture of thanking your customers, you can keep them coming back for more which is great for your business of course. It’s incredibly important to encourage brand loyalty throughout your sales process – even if you think your job may be done! Saying “thank you for using our services!” might not seem like much, but it’s the last thing they will remember about you! Using an incentive or a little gift might even encourage them to refer you to family and friends and we all know the importance of word-of-mouth referrals.

  1. Money in the bank

Yes, it might sound bizarre, but it’s still necessary to thank a customer for paying their bill on time (even though they should be doing it anyway). But, we all agree, late payment seems to be the norm in this age, and just saying “thanks for payment, we appreciate it”, can actually improve your collection efforts. Hooray!

Thanking customers who pay you punctually shows that it is appreciated and encourages them to continue to do so going forwards.

As a little something extra you could implement a rewards system to even thank customers who pay early! (settlement discounts perhaps?) We feel the cash flow benefits of receiving payment early counteracts the small discount blow.
